History

The Menhinick family have been farming at priors hall for 3 generations.

In 1942, James' and Richard's grandfather, Alec Menhinick  moved to Lindsell when the RAF needed his farm in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire for the war effort. Alec farmed 250 arable acres and a sizeable sheep herd.

In the late 1950's James' and Richard's father Clive Menhinick took over the family farm and replaced the sheep with a barley beef herd of cattle.

In the late 1960's Clive got rid of the cattle and started a small pig breeding unit.

In the late 1970's both James and Richard came home from college and decided to expand the pig herd to 200 breeding sows, selling pedigree stock to other commercial pig farms
.

In the late 1990’s two local butchers in Great Dunmow and Thaxted were employed to cut and prepare a few pigs to sell locally direct to the general public. Demand grew very quickly and when some local pubs started to enquire about our products we took the decision to invest in a state of the art cutting and processing plant on the farm at Priors Hall, this was completed and went into production in June 2003.

The business has grown very quickly and we now service the pork requirements of 30 pubs, 32 shops, 31 schools, 14 farmers markets and over 500 housewives. We believe our rapid expansion is due to the quality of our product, which seems to sell itself, and our ability, as a small family business, to service the individual requirements of our customers.

All our products are fresh and therefore can be frozen by the customer if they so wish.

We have a retail shop here at the farm, and we are happy to discuss your requirements either over the counter or on the phone. Alternatively, visit one of the farmers markets we attend monthly.
